Overall: Candice Scott of Florida was the highlight of the competition producing a series a great series (69.79m, 68.92m, 68.79m, Pass, Pass, Pass) and a new NCAA record. Julianna Tudja overcame a poor start to take second place in the fifth round with her best of 66.69m (218'09"). Jukina Dickerson, also of Florida, took third place with a throw of 65.75m.

Prelims: Florida's Candice Scott silence her competitors with a opening throw of 69.79m (228'11"). Her record broke her own NCAA record and NCAA Championships record. She also had two more throws that surpassed the previous collegiate record. Her teammate Jukina Dickerson also got off to a good start with an opening throw of 65.75m and she ended up in second place going into the finals. Julianna Tudja of USC fouled her first throw and only threw 61.75m on her second attempt. She improved to 62.41m on her third attempt, but did not look nearly as smooth as she did in Thursday's preliminaries.

Finals: Few improvements were made in the finals. Candice Scott elected to pass her final three attempts in order to save energy for her shot put final tonight while Julianna Tudja started to throw better. Tudja hit over 65m on her fourth throw and then a PR of 66.69m (218'09") on her fifth throw to move into second place. Amber Campbell improved from sixth to fourth on her final attempt with a new personal best of new personal best effort of 64.58m (211'10").
