About the Interviewee: G. Martin Bingisser is a hammer thrower and founder of Hammer Center.

Top Returners - Boys

Nick Owens (70'04.50")
Nick has been showing success in the weight throw for a while, but it was not until later in the outdoor season that he was also able to prove himself as a top level hammer thrower when he moved into 2nd place in the nation behind Adam Midles. Last Indoor Season he improved ten feet. Don't expect that from him this season, but still expect him to improve and move into the all-time top ten list.

» Zak Thomas (67'04.00")
While Zak only improved ten feet last outdoor season, but he still improved more than six feet indoor for the second straight season. He could easily break the 70' barrier this season.

» Leif Arrhenius (66'10.00")
Leif continues to amaze everyone with his weight and hammer throwing. He has great athletic ability, and will surpass his brother's state record this season. His only downfall is that he throws two events indoor (the shot put and weight throw). What could make or break Leif's season is how much emphasis he puts on the weight throw during his training.

» Kyle Cofield (65'05.50")
Despite his slender build, Kyle has shown that his great explosiveness lets him throw the weight far. While not as technically proficient as his teammate Nick, Kyle has been working hard to improve his technique. His work already started to pay off when he hit a ten foot PR at the end of the outdoor season. If he can continue to improve technically, Kyle will be dangerous.

» Dan Godin (63'02.75")
Like Kyle, Dan has a slender build. This might be holding him back a little in the weight (he ranked 6th in the hammer last year, but only 16th in the weight). Dan has improved apx. eight feet the last two season and should be able to approach 70' this year.

» Conclusion:
Nick Owens, assuming he attends a national championship, should win. Second will be a Leif. Zak, Kyle, and Dan all have a shot for third. However, since Zak Thomas has proven himself a succesful weight thrower in the past, and I give him a slight edge.

Top Returners - Girls

» Kelly Reynolds (55'11.75")
After setting the then National Freshman Record in 2000, Kelly has continued to improve more than seven feet each season. She came on strong to contend at major championships last outdoor season, and should do the same indoor.

» Kristen Callan (52'04.50")
Kristen hung right behind Kelly during the outdoor season, and even beat a few times. While their weight throe PRs are not as close, Kristen should still be able to compete with the best this indoor season.

» Nicole Sauer (47'10.50")
Nicole has shown that she can throw the weight better than the hammer (11th in the nation with the weight-33rd with the hammer). However, beacuse of this fact, there is little information for us to predict how she will do this season.

» Danielle DuFresne (45'02.00")
Danielle is another person who turned a few heads in the outdoor season when she finished up ranked 8th in the nation. By the end of the season she was consistant. She should be able to throw well indoors and compete for third place.

» Erin Donnelly (43'10.50")
Erin is the only Junior of this group, and still has some work to do to earn some respect. She had a great indoor season last year, and almost threw 140' outdoors. Erin is a sure shot to break 47' by the end of the season.

» Other Returners
Neither Della Clark or Marie Stringer had great marks last season, but both will be contenders this season. In a preseason meet this season Della brok 55 feet and Marie broke 53 feet.

» Conclusion:
Kelly and Della will be fighting for first this year, and I think that Kelly has the experience to prevail. Marie and Kristen will both be close behind fighting it out for third and fourth. This year's indoor championships should be one of the most competitive in the event's short history.
